Better shot of the historical marker at Rio Salado Sand Dunes (Walking Sands Rest Area). I woke up before everyone else and wanted to check things out. New Mexico is one of the states which provides “safety rest areas” that encourage travelers to rest when needed. Due to Zoe and then myself getting sick the day we left Bisbee (and a long line at one of the border checkpoints you’ll find in certain areas reasonably far from the actual border), we left our site twelve hours later than scheduled and could not make it to Colorado by nightfall as planned. We already knew where each rest area was in New Mexico and made our way to this one once we realized Arizona’s non-DST 2am MT was suddenly 3am MT DST in New Mexico / Colorado. Time to get some rest.
